Brief

Crescent Motorcycle Company was founded over 70 years’ ago. Growing from its initial roots as a cycle shop, they now have three specialist retail outlets representing major UK motorcycle franchises in Dorset and Hampshire, whilst also operating an international motorcycle racing team which in 2021 won the World Superbike Championship.

With the urgent need to appoint a Financial Controller, recruiting had become a challenge. The initial contact with CMA was made following a number of professional and separate recommendations.

Search Parameters

As a dynamic business who really take care of their staff, it was imperative not only to recruit a candidate with the right qualifications and capabilities but it was also important to identify somebody who was a good fit culturally.

Being able to develop strong working relationships both internally and externally, whilst also balancing the needs of key stakeholders through multiple channels of revenue, was essential.

It was also important that the Financial Controller was able to manage their own workload efficiently and often independently, due to the senior team often working across different sites.

Outcome

With the initial site visit having taken place, enabling CMA to understand the key requirements and Crescent Motorcycles to understand the market challenges , CMA conducted a thorough search and presented a shortlist of five candidates within two working days.

The shortlist included local candidates and even some who had a passion for motorcycling. From this shortlist three were selected for interview, with CMA suggesting one further addition.

Three days later – just five days after the initial meeting – all interviews had been conducted. The additional candidate CMA had recommended was then invited back for a second interview and ultimately offered the role.

Now fully settled into the business, they have also since come back to CMA themselves to recruit a temporary worker for their team.
